Blood Buzz Newsletter – April 2026
Dear Donor,
As we move further into the year, this edition of Blood Buzz brings together a collection of stories that remind us how much impact can come from a single act.
At the heart of it are the people. You’ll read Sibusiso’s story — one of resilience, hope, and the role that blood donors played in his journey. We also share a deeply personal account of someone who has stood on both sides, first as a caregiver and later as a recipient. It’s the kind of story that stays with you, long after you’ve finished reading.
You’ll also find practical guidance to support your next donation. From understanding why eating beforehand makes such a difference to why certain stages like pregnancy require a pause, these insights are there to help you feel informed and confident every step of the way. We’ve also taken a closer look at what actually happens during a donation — from how much blood is collected to how your body recovers — offering a clearer picture of just how safe and well-managed the process is.
There’s also a sense of energy running through this edition. From the excitement of welcoming students during orientation week to the support shown by our staff at the CANSA Shavathon at Head Office, it’s encouraging to see so many people stepping forward in their own way.
Taken together, these stories reflect something quite powerful — how small, everyday decisions can make a real difference in someone else’s life, often in ways we may never fully see but that others feel when it matters most.
Thank you for continuing to be part of that. Your support reaches further than you may ever know, and it brings hope to patients and families across the Western Cape.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Best wishes, till next time.
