Western Cape – 1 November 2026: This November, the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to current and new blood donors to support its Red November – Give One, Save Three campaign by donating blood. This campaign keeps blood donation top of mind during November, when people think of Black Friday and big savings.

“Give One, Save Three” reminds people of the great impact a single blood donation can make. Each unit of blood can be separated into its various components: red blood cells, platelets and plasma. Hospitals then use these components to treat patients with a wide range of medical conditions.

“This November, we want to shift the focus from filling your shopping cart to making the ultimate saving,” says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. “While everyone is hunting for the best deals, we encourage people to give something priceless, the gift of life.”

Blood stock shortages often occur leading up to and during the festive season, and WCBS is preparing in advance to ensure a sufficient blood supply throughout this busy period. On Friday, 27 November, WCBS is hosting a blood donation clinic at their Head Office in N’dabeni from 7:00 to 14:00, and everyone is welcome. On Saturday, 28 November, the blood donor centres at Blue Route Mall, Kenilworth Centre, Cape Gate Shopping Centre, Somerset Mall and N1 City are open from 9:00 to 15:00, as well as Hart & Bosch Village in Hartenbos from 10:00-14:00. Anyone interested in donating blood is urged to find their closest blood donation clinic.

If you are between 16 and 75 years old, weigh 50 kg or more, are in general good health and lead a safe sexual lifestyle, you should be able to donate. Donors are also advised to increase their fluid intake before and after donation.
