Blood Buzz Newsletter – June 2025
Dear Donor,
June is always a special month for us — and not just because it’s National Blood Donor Month. It’s a time to reflect, reconnect and recognise the incredible people who make our work possible: you, our remarkable blood donors, our local unsung heroes. This month, we’re celebrating your impact with stories that remind us how powerful a single donation can be.
One story that highlights the powerful act of blood donation is that of Tristan Kelly, a young man whose life took a remarkable turn — and who reminds us that behind every unit of blood, there’s a story of healing and hope. And speaking of incredible individuals, meet the Western Cape’s very own blood legend: a man who recently made his 400th blood donation. That’s not just a milestone — that’s a legacy.
This month also sees the exciting launch of our Make Your Mark youth initiative, a fresh drive to energise the next generation of blood donors. Be sure to read about the impact of the Extra Drop — you have truly donated blood and so much more. Your extra drop will go so much further and help provide life-changing rehabilitation and support services to blind and visually impaired individuals across the Western Cape. As an organisation, we supported the Reach For A Dream’s annual Slipper Day and came to work in our warm and fuzzy slippers.
And finally, if you’re looking to warm up this winter, we’ve included two simple favourites — a hot cross bun baking activity and a hearty dahl and rice recipe to enjoy with your loved ones.
Thank you for continuing to show up, step in, and give so generously. Whether it’s your first donation or your 400th, you’re part of something truly life-changing and remarkable.
Here’s to every drop.
Here’s to you.
Yours in blood donation,
Marike Carli
