Cape Town, 27 July 2026 – Schools across the Western Cape will once again take up the challenge to save lives as part of the Week of Warriors campaign taking place from 27 July to 31 July 2026.
The campaign aims to assist WCBS in reaching its goal of growing its youth donor base by 1500 donors during the current financial year, while also helping to address the ongoing pressure on blood stocks during winter. Through the Week of Warriors campaign, learners across the province are stepping up to help address this seasonal pressure on blood stocks while encouraging a culture of giving among young people. “Young donors are the future of blood donation,” said Marike Carli. “If we want to secure a stable blood supply for years to come, we need to invest in growing our youth donor base now. These learners are showing incredible leadership by choosing to give back to their communities and help save lives.”
“Participating schools (in no particular order) include: Bergvliet High School, DF Akademie, Westerford High School, Settlers High School, Hoërskool Jan van Riebeeck, Paarl Vallei High School, Bridge House School, Mondeor High School, Apex High School, Curro Century City, Hoërskool President, Worcester Gymnasium, HTS Drostdy, George High School, Hoërskool Outeniqua, Knysna High School and Buren High School. Each school will host its own on-site blood donation clinic during the campaign week.”
If you are between 16 and 75, weigh 50 kg or more, are in good general health, and lead a safe sexual lifestyle, you should be able to donate. Donors are advised to increase their fluid intake before, during, and after donation. Blood donation only takes 30 minutes of your time, and you can donate blood every 56 days.
