The Extra Drop initiative, launched in March 2025, has just completed its second successful cycle — and once again, our incredible donors have shown how small acts of kindness can lead to extraordinary impact.

Throughout May and June, blood donors were invited to take part in the Extra Drop by forgoing their thank-you token. In return, we donated R15 on their behalf to a worthy cause — this time, the recipient was Hannah’s Place of Safety, a non-profit organisation in Mitchell’s Plain that provides a loving, temporary home for abandoned, abused, and neglected babies aged birth to one year.

We are so grateful to our donors for their incredible support. A total of 1399 donors chose to participate, resulting in a generous donation of R20 985 to Hannah’s Place of Safety. These funds will go directly toward supporting the vital care and nurturing these vulnerable little ones need to thrive.

We were delighted to officially hand over the cheque on Monday, 14 July 2025, to Mr Dion Fabe, who accepted the donation on behalf of the organisation.

Candice Brink, treasurer at the organisation shared, “Your kindness helps provide the essentials these children need: safety, comfort and the chance to begin healing. Because of you, we’re able to continue our mission and be the voice for those who have none.”

Who’s next?

We are thrilled to announce that our new Extra Drop beneficiary for July and August is the Lucky Lucy Foundation. They are an animal rescue organisation that aims to relieve the plight of severely neglected and abused domestic animals. Find out more about their incredible work here.

How the Extra Drop works:

It’s simple — but powerful:

  • Donate blood at any WCBS blood donation clinic.
  • Choose whether to keep your token of appreciation or donate it.
  • Make an impact — when you choose to donate your token, we give R15 to the featured charity.
  • Repeat every two months with a new cause carefully selected by our WCBS committee.

To every donor who gave more than blood — thank you.  Your decision to give a little extra is making a world of difference. Your compassion not only saves lives through blood donation, it also brings hope and healing to those in need.
