Thanks to a caring collaboration between ourselves and Tygerberg Hospital, patients receiving life-sustaining blood transfusions at the Tygerberg Haematology Clinic can now do so in far greater comfort. In a recent partnership with the Haematology Division at Tygerberg Hospital, Dr Fatima Fazel reached out to us to share the daily challenges her patients face during long transfusion sessions, and our team responded with a practical and heartfelt contribution. Many of Tygerberg Hospital’s haematology patients receive life-sustaining blood transfusions that can last between four and eight hours; however limited ward space and hard plastic chairs often made an already difficult experience even more uncomfortable.
In response to this call, we stepped in to support the clinic by donating six gently used recliner blood donor chairs. These chairs have made a real difference in patient comfort. Dr Fazel shared, “Since the chairs arrived, our patients are noticeably more comfortable and more at ease. It has lifted the mood in the clinic, and staff feel more supported too.”
This act of generosity demonstrates what is possible when organisations and individuals work together with compassion and a shared purpose. The chairs, once used by our blood donors during donations at our Worcester branch’s on-site clinic, now provide comfort to the patients who receive their life-saving blood.
The donation is part of our commitment to supporting the public health system and working with clinical teams to improve patient care. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
